Absolutely lip-smacking and moreish. This offers utter refreshment and tons of flavour. - Decanter, 92 points

“Very Good Value.” - JancisRobinson.com

There’s something about the water-white colour of this cut-glass Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, that suggests that cool, calm refreshment is heading your way and it doesn’t disappoint. Its pristine flavours flow across the palate like glacial water laced with elderflower, blackcurrant and lime with, as Matthew Jukes describes, “the elemental forces of the Awatere coursing through its veins.” The Awatere Valley is one of the cooler parts of Marlborough and that lends the wines a certain frosty nudity, which we really like. A thirst-quenching aperitif for sure, but this is also a great food wine, and I can confirm, matches brilliantly with grilled calamari, fig and goat’s cheese salad, tuna carpaccio. It would pair perfectly with crab, clams, lobster, prawns and grilled fish. The guys at Spoke recommend it with Thai green curry and dishes that contain basil, coriander, rocket and mint. 12.5% alc. Drink now-2026.

Press Reviews:

Decanter: “Freshly sprouted pea shoots and that first insistent greenery of spring dance on the nose of this ultra-fresh wine. With more air, lemon, green apple, white melon and jalapeño peppers appear. Those green and fresh aromatics tell you all about the windswept Awatere Valley where this wine was grown in the Breezemere Vineyard, with a mossy, lemony greenness making this absolutely lip-smacking and moreish. This offers utter refreshment and tons of flavour. Drink now-2028.” 92 points

JancisRobinson.com: Lively and interesting white-peach aromas but more tropical – lime and pineapple – on the palate. It lingers long on the creamy texture, driven by crisp acidity. Very Good Value. Drink now-2025.” 16.5 points

Matthew Jukes (previous vintage): “It is simply thrilling quality and mind-boggling value for money… an unmissable treat. Kiwi winemaker Ben Glover and English Master of Wine Liam Steevenson have collaborated on a series of incredible wines under the SPOKE label. I tasted the range the other day; it is an absolute tour de force. If I were you, I would buy all of these SPOKE creations, including my featured bottle, and host a Marlborough masterclass with your friends. I have led this column with the inexpensive, estate-level wine because it is made with the same care and attention as the pricier models, with the elemental forces of the Awatere coursing through its veins.”

Jamie Goode (previous vintage): “This is bright and focused with a crisp grapefruit and lime character, as well as some pretty passionfruit notes in the background. There’s a hint of green here, too: delicate and fine, with some tomato leaf. Such purity and focus to this wine. Benchmark.” 92 points
