Feudo Disisa 'Lu Bancu' Catarratto, Monreale, Sicily, Italy 2021
We all have idealised images that we invoke when called upon, whether it’s the perfect beach or the perfect roast potato. This Catarratto is what I imagine, when I imagine the perfect glass of white wine, that cool, dewy, silver-green glass of unadulterated refreshment, as crystal-clear as glacial water, without the noisy interference of oak or floral aromas. 13% alc. Drink now-2025.
Press reviews (previous vintages):
JancisRobinson.com (2019 vintage): “Ripe galia melon, lime and a brush of ground-cumin spice. Fruit as clear and precise as a pane of glass. Citrus-cut, cool, homing in to mouth-watering focus on the finish. A wine that makes you hungry. Begs for a bowl of batter-fried sardines with mayonnaise or hot, crispy socca. drink now-2024.” 16.5 points
Decanter (2018 vintage): “A delicious wine from the indigenous Catarratto variety from Monreale. Here, fruitness prevails over minerality, showing a lemon purity on the nose, with rich cedar aroma and flavour at the core. It brings to mind Goethe’s famous line, 'do you know the land where lemon trees bloom?'. Lean and zesty, it's a smart example of great elegance. Drink now-2022.” 94 points
