The Liberator 'Dial P for Pinot', Simonsberg-Paarl, South Africa 2020
Opulent, dare I say sumptuous aromas soar from this brilliant value Pinot Noir, discovered by our good friend, Rick (aka ‘The Liberator’) in a barrel room in Paarl, north of Stellenbosch. Rick finds individual barrels of wine lurking in some of the finest addresses in The Cape, negotiates their ‘liberation’, and bottles them under his own label and this is without a doubt one of his finest discoveries to date. It’s a really generous Pinot Noir, full of sweet cherry and orange oil aromas, dusted with pudding spice. I used to have my doubts about South African Pinot Noir but Hannes Storm, Gordon Newton-Johnson and wines like this have put me firmly in my place. We only have 10 cases and it’s a one-off, so when it’s gone, it’s gone. 14% alc. Drink now-2026.
