“Incredible quality for the price.” - JancisRobinson.com, 17.5 points

“Stellar.” - Vinous, 94 points

One of the exciting things about wine these days is the diaspora of grape varieties across the globe. Here we have the Austrian grape variety, Grüner Veltliner, grown and vinified beside the Pacific Ocean in California. Sunshine doesn’t always mean ripeness, it can just amplify a grape’s natural characteristics and here it brings out the green fruit, sweet herb and greengage accents of Grüner Veltliner, making for a deliciously expressive and complex, dry white with plenty of body and richness for a wine with an abv of only 12.5% alc. Drink now-2030.

Press reviews:

JancisRobinson.com: “Pale greenish gold. Scents of white flowers, pastry cream and Asian pear. Asian pear flavours mix with elderflower, lemongrass and crushed stone as fantastic acidity accompanies a light chalky texture in the finish. Complex and compelling. Incredible quality for the price. Very Good Value. 12% alc. Drink now-2030.” 17.5 points

Vinous: “The 2020 Grüner Veltliner Meeresboden is stellar. In fact the 2020 might be one of the best vintages ever for the Meeresboden. A wine of precision, drive and mineral intensity, the 2020 impresses with its delineation and class. Lemon confit, white pepper, chalk, mint and sage lend notable complexity to this vibrant, wonderfully expressive Grüner. Drink now-2030.” 94 points

Jamie Goode: “The name of this wine means “Ocean Soil”, and in this case it is sand. This is a blend from several spots, with soils of sand, diatomaceous earth, and loam. Refined and textural with bright citrus fruit and a touch of ripe pear, and notes of aniseed and white pepper. Classy and understated this delivers good concentration, some varietal character and a twist of stony minerality on the finish.” 93 points

“I was blown away by the wines I tasted with Graham Tatomer this year.” - Antonio Galloni
