A brand new white Rioja from Bodegas Queiron and it’s a cracker. The Tempranillo Blanco grapes were fermented in either amphorae or oak barrels, and in some cases both, and you can really taste how beautifully-integrated it is, like a well-stirred sauce or a well-folded cake mix. Often, with white Rioja, the oak flavours sit on top of the fruit, like a varnish, but here they have been absorbed, leaving a wine that is full of flavours of yellow plum and apricot as well as roast chestnut, vanilla and honey, but it never feels heavy and at just 12.5% alcohol, is the perfect accompaniment for lighter seafood dishes as well as those in a cream or butter sauce.
