‘Clos de Beauregard’ Menetou-Salon Rouge, Domaine Chavet, Loire, France 2021
Although you might not be familiar with the joys of red Menetou-Salon, after trying it you'll understand that this is a true hidden gem of the Loire Valley. Made from Pinot Noir (just like red Sancerre), this particular bottle comes from the Chavet family who have been cultivating their vineyards in the heart of the Menetou-Salon appellation since the 17th century. This single-plot cuvée comes from one of the estate’s oldest Pinot Noir vineyards (65 years old). Raised in old barriques, this satisfyingly ripe but tart-edged wine shows bright raspberry and damson fruit, tinged with cinnamon, smoky black tea, and cherry stones. A very pleasurable glass of wine, which you can serve at room temperature or even slightly chilled for added refreshment. Drink now – 2026.
