Saumur Blanc 'Le Bourg', Domaine Guiberteau, Loire, France 2021
The Saumur ‘Le Bourg’ comes from a parcel of Chenin Blanc in Brézé planted 70 years ago on tuffeau soil. It was picked by hand, fermented without additions and aged for 12 months in tank and older oak barrels. A concentrated, dense and substantial, textural Saumur with plenty of time on its side. Drink now-2035.
Press review:
JancisRobinson.com: “A parcel in Brézé. Sandy-silty clay over tuffeau. 70-year-old vines. Aged 12 months in tank and barrel. First vintage of this cuvée. Certified organic. Pale, luminous colour. Discreet nose but definitely has depth. Sharp and precise on attack. Live-wire tension and acidity. Saline finish. Very pure but tight and tense. Needs time to unwind. 12.5% alc. Drink now-2030.” 16.5+ points
Vinous: “The 2021 Le Bourg is sited on one of the area’s most coveted sites, Brézé, offering a salty, tightly-wound style. There are lemon, almond and apple flavours on this light-bodied, yet firmly poised white with a sense of chili spice and salty notes. Drink now-2033.“ 92 points
