Envinate Taganan Blanco, Tenerife, Spain 2022
I’m not saying this wine is mineral, but it's like breaking rocks with your face! The aromas swirl with quarry dust, sea spray, struck flint, smoke and citrus pith, but the palate is fleshed out with wonderfully ripe apricot, sweet lime and grapefruit syrup, so it's both mouth-watering and deeply satisfying. If you like the flinty style of white Burgundy, this amazing Tenerife white won't feel wholly alien to you, but its vineyards sit on a volcano’ in the Atlantic Ocean and that really shines through on the palate. 12% alc. Drink now-2028.
Press reviews:
JancisRobinson.com: “Fruit is multidimensional with pure yet savoury apple, pear and quince. This is a complex wine with plenty of tension. It is saline and slightly grippy, with a very appealing and long smoky finish. This is really showing well right now. Drink now-2028.“ 17.5 points
The Wine Advocate: “The 2022 Táganan Blanco has a mellow nose with notes of ripe yellow fruit, dried flowers, aromatic herbs and crushed rocks. 2022 was extremely dry and delivered healthy grapes that were harvested early, and the wine kept a moderate 12% alcohol and very high acidity (7.1 grams) that give it a lively palate with citrus freshness and a very tasty, salty finish. This didn't go through malolactic fermentation and matured in neutral barrels with lees for nine months. Drink now-2028.” 94 points
