Envinate 'Benje Blanco', Tenerife, Spain 2021
Kapow! The aromas are so exciting and wonderfully evocative of Tenerife (a volcanic island in the Atlantic Ocean, in case you failed geography) and the wine has all the mineral, saline and maritime qualities that you might expect, but the fruit is there too, so it's a wonderful elision between the elements and the orchard, showing lemon, grapefruit, wispy smoke, crushed stone, lime, more crushed stone, and more lime. It’s a wine that would appeal to anyone keen on flinty Chablis or bone dry Riesling (sipped while sitting on the edge of a smoking crater). Organic. 12% alc. Drink now-2026.

The Wine Advocate: “There's more volume in the 2021 Benje Blanco, from a year that was very warm and dry. The grapes achieved high ripeness in a short time, and they used more flor to try to sharpen the wine and make the palate finer and longer. They did a softer vinification to try not to extract any herbal notes.. Drink now-2028.“ 93 points
