Anjou Blanc Sec 'Ronceray', Chateau de Plaisance, Loire, France 2021
Winemaker, Vanessa Cherruau, has hit the bullseye (once again!) with this Anjou Blanc 2021 from the renowned ‘Ronceray’ vineyard. It’s a definitively dry Chenin Blanc, aged in a combination of large foudre and small oak barrels. The barrel component brings subtle hints of freshly baked bread and warm pastry to the green pear, apple and citrus fruits that characterise the palate. If you need something crisp and flinty, with a very light hint of toast (like someone grilling sourdough next door), then this would be ideal, especially with smoked salmon or white fish ceviche or fatty tuna sashimi. 100% Chenin from the Butte de Chaume. Serve between 8° and 10°. 12.5% alc. Drink now-2030.
Organic (certified); biodynamic.
Press reviews:
Vinous: “Fine purity of lemon peel, and apple fruit alongside pastry characters from lengthy periods on lees. There’s excellent clarity here. Light-bodied with a line of pure acidity and an element of tenderness providing a caress before a salty conclusion kicks in. Drink now-2029. “ 91 points
Decanter: “From old vines, with incredible intensity, complexity and vibrancy. Apple purée, mouthwatering salinity and an engaging grippy texture through the nutty finish.” 93 points
