Malterdinger Weiss, Bernhard Huber, Baden, Germany 2019
We don’t need an alarm clock when there are wines like this on our list. We love what we do and it gives us such a buzz to know how much pleasure a wine like this will give that we can’t wait to start the day. It’s a blend of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay, but that’s almost irrelevant, because it’s not about the components, it’s about the harmony of the whole. The aromas are straight out of Meursault, with wispy gun-smoke and flint-sparks on the nose and a palate of mouthwatering succulence, with waves of yuzu, grapefruit and nectarine. This tasting note was written entirely from memory, because the only word I had written in my tasting-book was “Wowza!”. Drink now-2028.
