Settlement 'Settlement', Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand 2020
So good they named it twice? Well, not exactly. Sometimes the wine trade doesn't help itself and here's a case in point. Settlement farm 4 vineyards in Marlborough, namely the Heritage, Poplars, Ashmore and Settlement vineyards, so this wine, sourced from the last-named, is called the Settlement Settlement Pinot Noir. Labelling gripes aside, it's a really beautiful example of a Marlborough Pinot Noir, wonderfully silky yet rich too, loaded with perfumed morello cherry, souk spices, betel nut and orange peel. 14% alc. Drink now-2030.
Organic (certified).
Wine Enthusiast: "A lovely, layered bouquet of bright black and red currant, strawberry, spice, florals and a meaty nuance opens. The elegant palate is seamlessly put together with supple, spiced fruit and well-structured chalky tannins. A mineral thread runs quietly beneath. It's lucid and ready to drink now but could age for several more years." 94 points
Steve Bennett MW: "Interesting, aromatic, savoury nose with notes of damson plum, dark berry, forest floor, nori, peppercorns, salami and salted, black liquorice. Medium-bodied, with plush fruit but still a seriously structured wine with layered tannins. A dynamic, complex wine built for the long haul." 96 points ('Exceptional')
