Sailor Seeks Horse 'Small Wonder' Pinot Noir, Huon Valley, Tasmania, Australia 2022
“To say these are some of the finest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays made in Australia is an understatement… they are really some of the best examples of those grapes anywhere in the world. These wines teem with the energy of Gilli and Paul and of the healthy, pristine vineyard they have created. The labour of love here is as profound as the results.” - Jonathan Ross MW and Jane Lopes MS
Quite a pale and delicate Pinot Noir, but full of character and surprisingly ample-fruited on the palate. Flavours of cherry, rosehip and grenadine wrap their ribbons around a core of dainty tannins, which allow the fruit to do its own thing, just offering a little background support. We love this style of wine: pretty, intricate and with more to it than meets the eye. 20% new oak. Pommard clones. 13% alc. Drink now-2030.
The Australian WIne Companion: “Pinot Noir from the West Tamar; matured nine months in French oak (20% new). Mid-ruby with aromas of red cherry, redcurrant and raspberry with lighter tones of watermelon. It's filigreed and flighty with a silkiness of fruit and hints of exotic spice, char sui, pressed wildflowers, forest floor and stone. Where there is light, there is detail, and everything seems on point and delineated here. Beautiful drinking.“ 96 points
