Rafael Cambra 'Casalabor', Valencia, Spain 2020

£27.95

“This vintage is the finest so far. Superb!” - The Wine Advocate, 95 points

There’s something Pinot Noir-like about this blue-skinned, local grape variety, Arcos, as well as a hint of Nebbiolo and a dash of Grenache. It’s all about sensuous, silky tannins and subtle, nuanced, Mediterranean flavours of wild cherry, cinnamon, bouquet garni and a hint of red vermouth. Rafael Cambra grew up with wine in his veins, as his family own one of the most prestigious nurseries in Spain, with clients like Vega Sicilia and Alvaro Palacios. The grapes for this wine were sourced from a tiny, 1.3-hectare plot of 50-year-old bush vines. 13% alc. Drink now-2030.

Press review:

The Wine Advocate: “The varietal Arcos 2020 Casalabor has a spectacular nose, complex and deep, nuanced, clean and expressive, earthy. To me, this vintage is the finest so far and shows the wine's potential. This has a more "Italian" profile, as Cambra likes to give it a longer élevage, 18 to 20 months, in used 500-litre barrels and concrete. The grape ripens very slowly and late and still keeps very low alcohol (this has 12.5%). The vines were planted around 1972, and the soils are very white, as they're high in limestone, which gives the wine austerity and tastiness. Superb! Drink now-2030.” 95 points
