Pinot Noir, Bischöfliche Weinguter Trier, Saar, Germany 2019
If you haven’t tried a German Pinot Noir before (also known as Spätburgunder), then do give this delightful example a try. It pours a pale red-brick colour and smells like a punnet of creamy strawberries, given energy and vitality by the acidity of sharper fruits like cherry and orange. There’s a delicate charm that evokes the prettier, lighter-bodied reds of the Cote d’Or in Burgundy, while the wispy woodsmoke notes from the toasted German oak give it a local feel. Delicious on its own or with duck, chicken or turkey. 13% alc. 10 months in new and second-fill German oak barrels. Drink now-2028.
