No one really knows how a wine achieves cult status, but when you hear about a wine on the grapevine, discover that it will be available to taste at a wine bar in an old pharmacy in east London and your allocation, if you attend, will be 12 bottles, then that's probably a good start. That's exactly how we came by this Pinot Noir from young gun, Marco Lubiana. It's a really fine example of the heartbreak grape, with fine details in its floral and cassis aromas, its wonderfully intense sour cherry and raspberry palate and that ineffable feeling that you are drinking molten rubies! 13% alc. Drink now-2036.
The Wine Advocate (previous vintage): "The 2022 Pinot Noir is an intriguing wine. I'll skip straight to the palate, because this is where it really comes alive with poached strawberry and a hint of sumac, sour cherry and clove, dried rosemary, hints of shaved fennel, some blood orange and Pink Lady apples. It is complex and texturally satisfying, with a long, extended, unfurling finish that is both floral and silky. This is a really good wine; it's exciting and super classy." 95 points
The Wine Companion (previous vintage): "Two-thirds Huon Valley and one-third Derwent Valley fruit matured in 15% new French oak. Bright ruby with finely detailed aromas of red cherry, wild strawberries, raspberry coulis and some blueberry crunch. Hints of forest floor, gentle exotic spice and amaro herbs, mushroom broth and roast duck off in the distance. Plenty of space and detail on the palate with a lovely fruit purity, a stony presence, bright acidity and compact tannin framework. It makes for beautiful drinking now but will reward cellaring." 95 points
