Kekfrankos Bianka and Daniel Schmitt, Rheinhessen, Germany 2021
Kekfrankos Bianka and Daniel Schmitt, Rheinhessen, Germany 2021
A beautifully aromatic Kekfrankos (aka Blaufrankisch), which was unfiltered to keep all the goodness in, so it’s slightly hazy in its medium-pale crimson colour and it smells of smoky black cherry (my way of identifying Blaufrankisch) and mulberry with background hints of juniper, orange, cinnamon and something northern Rhone-like on the palate, a glossy juiciness and a sense of charred blackberries and crushed rocks. Imagine a Venn diagram with 3 circles containing 'Crozes-Hermitage', 'Nuits-Saint-Georges' and 'Carnuntum' and you'll find this wine at their intersection. 12% alc. Drink now-2027.
